Aberdeen based Junior outfit Banks O'Dee thumped the Scot Ads Highland League bottom side Fort William 10-0 in a result that will have even more people suggesting it is time the Spain Park side made the step up. The result reflects just how dominant they were throughout the 90 minutes in what was an incredible Scottish Cup debut.
Stephen Howden caused the first panic in the home defence after four minutes but his deep cross was just too high for the head of the inrushing Mike Ellis Dee should have opened the scoring 60 seconds later with Steve Pearson and Richard Munro getting involved in a mix up but from 6 yards Gordon Carstairs hit the base of the post. Carstairs had an even better chances after 13 minutes but Steven Pearson got back to clear off the line after a free flowing move had cut open the For t defence. Bob McGillivray's 25 yard strike was well held by Scott Forbes but with Bank on the front foot an opener had to come. A ball through the centre of the defence was picked up by Gordon Carstairs after 24 mins and he ran through to net with an easy finish. Six minutes later it was 2-0; Richie Taylor played the ball across the face of the box and from 18 yard s Ally Reid hit a screamer high beyond the diving Munro. Ten minutes from the break it was game over as Gordon Carstairs got clear again and flicked it under Munro for his second and Dee third and it wasn't long before Fort's defence was dissected once again through the centre and this time it was Ally Reid who benefitted, rounding the keeper before slotting the ball into the empty net. Forts best chance of the half came a minute from the break when a Mike Ellis effort from a Danny Mackintosh cross landed on the top of the Dee net. The game swung quickly to the other end and Robert Turnbull ran for a lost cause down the left wing and with the Fort defence leaving the ball for out the full back got there and crossed for Richie Taylor to flick home from close range Half Time: Banks O'Dee 5 Fort William 0 Fort started the second half in more positive mood but they couldn't get a break through and there was no surprise when number six arrived. Kevin Ferguson, who came on at half time, downed Richie Taylor in the penalty area and Kevin Whyte netted from the spot. Taylor was leading the away defence a merry dance and yet again he beat their offside trap after 70 minutes to play in Myles Brownhill for an easy ten yard finish. Taylor's experience then saw him produce a nice piece of skill to nutmeg Stevie Pearson before sending a low effort form 8 yards past Munro at near post. There was still more goals to come and in the last four mins Pearson conceded a penalty when he brought down Richie Stainer and this time it was Richie Taylor who sent the keeper the wrong way. A minute from time Craig Phillips hit a 14 yard shot past the bewildered Fort keeper to make it ten nil, a stunning rout that set up a second round tie against the in form Inverurie Locos at Harlaw Park in a month's time.
