Strathspey delight as four quick goals leads to three big points Print
Donly McLeod couldn't hide his delight as he seen his side thump Fort William in an excellent match at Seafield Park this afternoon  that included 5 goals and a red card; but most importantly it saw Strathspey pick up a historic first win in Highland League football.

It took only 2 minutes for the Grantown side to take the lead. An exquisite pass from Ross MacKay found trialist Ronnie Jones who smashed the ball in off the post for 1-0. 2 minutes later the Strathspey bench had another goal to celebrate, a good run up the line by Mateusz Bobrowski  and his cross from the right was turned into the net by Graeme Bamber.

The third goal arrived after 18 minutes. A corner from the right was turned away by Mark Gilespi but only for Murray Ross to curl the ball into the keeper's bottom left hand corner as the Strathspey Gaffer's heart rate went through the roof.

The match was all but wrapped up in the 21st minute as Ronnie Jones grabbed his second goal of the game with a wonderfully taken finish. Another inch perfect pass from Ross MacKay found Jones who controlled the ball comfortably, rounded the advancing Fort keeper, John Campbell and slotted home.

The Claggan Park side first threatened after 38 minutes after Craig Ireland chopped down Michael Gillespie. The resulting free kick was thumped against the bar from 35 yards by Ryan Haggerty.

Half time: Strathspey Thistle 4-0 Fort William

Fort began much better in the second half and threatened again after 56 minutes when a free kick from the left by Martin Kerr was flicked onto the bar by Daniel MacIntosh.

Calum Mclean's side pulled a goal back in the 69th minute. Another delivery from out wide by Martin Kerr looped high into the box and Strathspey stopper Chris Bowles looked to have collected the ball in the air but he dropped it and Michael Ellis toe-poked the ball into an empty net.

The curtain closed on a sour note in an otherwise exciting match with a red card. A mazy dribble from substitute Cameron Gaff ended with a thumping tackle from bruising defender Mark Gillespie when Gaff was one-on-one with the Fort keeper Campbell. The referee gave Gillespie his marching orders.

The final whistle was greeted with shouts of jubilation from the Strathspey dugout as their team picked up their first win of the season and pulled themselves off the bottom of the table while the Fort must hope they can gain some revenge if the game goes ahead next weekend at Claggan Park.
