Wick started this game at a blistering pace and in the first minute they had their first chance, Richard MacAdie played in Stevie Cunningham and from the edge of the box he fired a left foot shot just wide. In the build up fort defender Andrew Martin appeared to take a nasty knock and was replaced by Ian Foggo
On 14 minutes MacAdie played in Cunningham again, he lifted the ball past Fort keeper Campbell and appeared to play a square ball with his head to Gary Manson, Manson. A Fort defender seemed to clatter into Manson but referee Ross ignored shouts for a penalty and while the standside linesman's flag ruled that Manson was offside. Just a minute later Wick had their first shot at target, Davie Allan got to the goal line on the right and his cutback found MacAdie and he flicked straight at the keeper. Just 2 minutes later Fort William clattered the crossbar, Martin Kerr floated a free kick from just inside the wick half into the box and Michael Gillespie rose highest and was unlucky to see his header clatter the bar. On 26 minutes MacAdie swung in a corner and Alan Farquhar rose unmarked to a fire a header just over. Fort finished the half with a good passing move, Darren Quigg worked the ball out to Sam Urquhart and he cut in from the left and fired just over from 25 yards. Wick should have taken the lead in first half stoppage time, Sam MacKay worked his way to the goal line and played the ball back to Cunningham, who then worked the ball to Bryan McKiddie, he was crowded out so he touched the ball to MacAdie and from 10 yards out he fired the ball low and wide. From the resulting goal kick fort broke and Jonathon Hewitt found himself in the clear but Alan Bokas made a good save low to his left to deflect the ball for a corner. No goals but plenty to talk about Half Time: Wick Academy 0 Fort William 0 Wick nearly took the lead after 53 minutes; MacAdie bore down the left and played the ball back to Manson. He then found Allan and his curling shot was superbly tipped over the bar by Campbell for a corner. Five minutes later and it seemed like Campbell was not going to be beaten, MacKay played a free kick into the box and Craig Shearer directed a header towards the bottom corner and Campbell made a fantastic save to tip the ball away for a corner. Kerr found space on the edge of the after 64 minutes but he fired his shot narrowly wide of the right hand post. Wick finally broke the deadlock after 74 minutes, Martin Gunn hooked a long ball over the fort defence to find Gary Weir who calmly stroked the ball beyond the advancing keeper into the bottom left hand corner. It only took wick 3 minutes to double their lead, this time Weir returned the favour to Martin Gunn flicking on a pass to put the veteran into the clear and he placed a low shot into the bottom right of the goal this time. Wick made sure of the points on 85 minutes, Davie Allan raced clear and his shot was blocked by Campbell but he was powerless to stop the ball trickling over the goal line. Fort William had one last chance on 88 minutes, Kerr flighted in a free kick from the halfway line into the box and Urquhart's glancing header was straight at Bokas.
