Ridgers returns to Seafield Park Print
The competition to be first choice goalkeeper at Strathspey Thistle is sure to be intense over this coming season with boss Donly McLeod snapping up another shotstopper. Willie Ridgers' return to Seafield Park means the Jags now have FOUR custodians on their books.

Ridgers is back with the club he spent the 2008/09 season at on loan from his then club Nairn County. A move to Rothes followed but with fellow Inverness-based players such as Mark Dougal and Donald Horsburgh moving on from the Speysiders, Ridgers was struggling for transport to and from training.

The healthy battle for a starting jersey is sure to be something that won't faze Ridgers, a player from a family of goalkeepers with brother Ally at Nairn County and Mark a full time stopper with Hearts.

Donly McLeod believes the competition will be healthy for the Jags as they look to climb up off the foot of the Highland League table in what will be their second campaign at this level. Speaking to http://www.highlandleague.net/, the Strathspey boss said:

"Willie Ridgers is coming back to us after being with Rothes. It will all be done and dusted in time for him to be involved with us in our bounce game against Nethy Bridge on Tuesday.

"He was there at Rothes for a year but he lives in Inverness and got through with boys like Mark Dougal and Donald Horsburgh. They've moved on from Rothes now though so he was stuck for a lift back and fore. We were able to bring him in and he will provide competition and cover for Chris Bowles.

"Apart from that, there's nothing new on the transfer front but we have been speaking to boys. We're still looking to bring in another striker and we did speak to an experienced defender at the weekend but he said he is going to be staying with his current club."

The Grantown Jags have a pre-season game against Ross County at Seafield Park on Saturday and to get his players up to speed, McLeod has been able to fix up a bounce match against amateur club Nethy Bridge tomorrow evening.
