Forres began the game the brighter and they opened the scoring in the sixth minute.  A Kevin Collins corner was headed away but only as far as the six yard box where Nathan Sharp was on hand to fire into the net.

Forres managed to put the ball in the net for the second time on 19 minutes when Ryan Green slotted the ball home but the linesman ruled it as offside to the frustration of the raucous travelling Can Cans fans.

Just before half time Wigtown got back into the game when Ross McGrindal was let loose on the left flank and he delivered a cross in for Martin McClymont who took one touch and shot with the second cannoned the ball off the underside of the bar and onto the line but the linesman flagged it as a goal.

In the second half Wigtown managed to get a goal in front on 57 minutes Alex McColm inswinging free kick was met by Barry White who flicked it past Stuart Knight.

With 65 minutes on the clock Ricky Wardrop found himself with space and time six yards from goal and tried to lift the ball over the oncoming Graham Smith but his effort finished just over the bar.

However redemption arrived six minutes from time when Forres were handed a controversial penalty.  Simon Allan stepped up to convert immaculately to set up a dramatic final few minutes.

Forres began to press forward in the last few minutes but were unable to create any clearcut openings and therefore these two teams will have to do it all over again, although for Wigtown the nightmare of a trip to Moray awaits them, with a home tie against Keith in round two up for grabs.
