Edinburgh City took full advantage of a second bite of the cherry to win their way through to the third round where they will host Second Division high flyers Brechin City, although the final scoreline did flatter them a little. The first chance fell to Edinburgh City after 7 minutes with Jordan Hall taking the ball past Wick Academy's Andrew Macleod out on the left hand side and crossing for Robbie Ross but the chance was snuffed out and Don MacMillan collected. Edinburgh stuck with attacking down the left and when Douglas Gair's ball into the box saw Jordan Hall slice a shot out towards the right touchline Jordan Caddow showed great alertness to pick the ball up and play it back to Hall who forced a good save out of Don Macmillan with his second effort. On 14 minutes a corner from Richard Macadie, on the left, found Andrew Macleod but his header was blocked by Gary Weir, who saved the City keeper a job. The first goal of the game came for Edinburgh City. Jordan Caddow got the ball right out on the touchline and from his low cross Robbie Ross squeezed a shot home from 9 yards with the help of the post. Wick Academy responded well after going a goal down, a throw in from Stevie Cunningham to Andrew Macleod resulted in Macleod playing the back to the thrower. He swung the ball in for Gary Weir but the striker's header flew straight at City keeper Duncan Monteith Wick threatened again a few minutes later with a nice passing move involving Gary Weir, Richard MacAdie and Craig Shearer resulted in Weir playing a long diagonal pass to Nigel Mackenzie. He turned onto his right foot on the edge of the box and forced a good save from the keeper, at the expense of a corner. City goalscorer Robbie Ross was booked for a foul in the 44th minute that ultimately lead to Wick's leveller. A ball into the box saw Gary Weir fouled and the striker made no mistake, sending the keeper the wrong way by placing the ball low into the goalies left hand corner of the net. The keeper was duly booked for booting the ball out of the park when the half time whistle sounded. Half Time Wick Academy 1 Edinburgh City 1 The first attack of the second half came fromWick Academy; Richard MacAdie played in Nigel Mackenzie down the left wing, MacAdie then received the return ball, skipped a tackle to get into the box and shot, but it was one the keeper dealt with comfortably. A few minutes later a corner from the left for Wick found Craig Shearer but his header was cleared off the line and when the rebound fell to MacAdie whose shot was also cleared off the line. Having survived this double scare the visitors regained the league on 51 minutes when Robbie Ross found space in the box and he turned and hit a tame looking shot straight at the keeper but the ball hit a divot and bounced over MacMillan and into the bottom corner. Edinburgh City increased their lead further on 63 minutes when a short back pass from Macleod to MacMillan was intercepted by Robbie Ross who skipped pass the keeper and slotted into the empty net to complete his hat trick. Edinburgh now had the upper hand and came close to increasing their lead when Gair got the better of Cunningham and lobbed the keeper but the ball rebounded off the post to Hall but with the goal at his mercy he blasted over the bar. On 72 minutes Edinburgh City nearly scored again Jordan Caddow cut in from the right touchline and passes to sub Steven Clee, who in turn fed Gair but his shot was cleared off the line by Andrew Macleod. Wick nearly pulled a goal back after Weir turned his man and was 1 on 1 with the keeper his shot beat the keeper but was cleared off the line by a covering defender. On full time Wick had a chance to make it 3 2 with Craig Shearer hitting a shot from the edge of the box which hits the crossbar and bounced down onto (although it looked over) the line and just to highlight that this was not the Scorries day the visitors broke straight up the park and netted a fourth when Jordan Hall curled a left footed shot past the despairing Don MacMillan from the edge of the box.
