Match Reports May 1st 2010: Buckie Thistle win title in style Print
Buckie Thistle have ended their 52 year wait for a Highland League crown as they ran out 3-0 winners against nine man Wick Academy at Harmsworth Park with the large travelling support in full voice from the moment Martin Charlesworth got the ball rolling with a 15th minute opener.

A David Macrae penalty in the 26th minute made it 2-0 and just a minute after a double sending off Martin Charlesworth set the seal on the victory with his second and the Jags third.  The party has already started and looks set to wind it's way back to Moray over the course of a wild weekend in Buckie.

Elsewhere Forres Mechanics and Rothes warmed up for next weekends with 3-0 and 2-0 wins over Brora Rangers and Nairn County respectively.  The win for Forres moves them to within two points of Deveronvale and almost ensures they will finish at least 5th despite Huntly running out 3-0 winners over Lossiemouth at Grant Park.

Rothes were able to close the gap on Strathspey Thistle to just one point at the bottom of the table with the Jags going down 5-1 to Turriff United but Fort William remain four clear of the bottom thanks to a stunning 3-2 victory over Inverurie Locos despite going down to 10 men after half an hour with the score at 1-0.  Neil Gauld made it ten a side after all five goals had gone in.

In the days other games Fraserburgh kept their hopes of finishing second alive with a one nil victory over Keith at Kynoch Park.  The Broch's game against Cove Rangers next week could prove to be the deciding factor in the race for the second Scottish Cup bye

Meanwhile Formartine netted three unanswered goals against Clachnacuddin in what is an important win given the losses for Keith, Locos and Wick.

Full reports will be appearing on the site as the evening progresses and look out for a feature packed week with Brian Barclay getting a flavour of the Buckie celebrations.
