Red card allows the Vale to unlock the Fort and net six
It took Deveronvale almost an hour to shake free of the Fort but they went on to fire in five second half goals, winning 6-0 to move to within one goal of the top of the SHFL table ahead of next weekend's clash with league leaders Wick.

The first opportunity of the afternoon came after 17 minutes when Graeme Watt down the left wing played the ball to Gordon Carstairs who was tackled but the ball fell for Gary McGowan who made some space for himself before firing his shot at the keeper.

The Vale took the lead after 29 minutes when Steve Dolan played a through ball over the top for Graeme Watt to run on to and cross into the box where Mark Chisholm headed home at the far post.

It could and perhaps should have been 2-0 10 minutes later when Mike McKenzie shot straight at Craig Masterton when he found himself one on one with the Fort keeper. Two minutes later Gordon Carstairs played the ball to the impressive Graeme Watt who beat his man before firing a shot straight at the goalkeeper.

The Vale were clearly told that they had to kill the game off early in the second half as barely 60 seconds Mark Chisholm headed just over from a Gary McGowan cross.  Fort William were reduced to ten men when Mark Gillespie was given a second yellow card for a reckless challenge on Steve Dolan.

With that bit more room the Banffers took full advantage of the extra man. On 52 minutes Mark Chisholm, who caused the Fort defence problems every time he came into the box, saw a headed effort zip just wide following a Graeme Watt cross.

Fort William, who were looking dangerous on the counter attack, had a good chance to pull level on 56 minutes when a defence splitting ball from Darren Quigg set Robert MacGilvary free but his effort was saved by James Blanchard at his near post. A nervy moment for the home support.

The home side had the ball in the net again on 58 minutes when Graeme Watt finished off a nice move but the linesman's flag was raised and the goal was chopped off. However the second goal came just two minutes later when substitute Sam MacKay down the left hand side beat the full back and played the ball into the six yard box where Andy Martin slid the ball into his own net.

It was 3-0 just two minutes later when Steve Dolan down the left cut the ball back for Gary McGowan to finish easily as the away side's defence looked to be falling apart. Sponsor's man of the match Gary McGowan doubled his tally on 66 minutes when Gordon Carstairs crossed the ball in from the right and the ball bounced off Andy Martin into the feet of Gary McGowan who knocked the ball home at the front post.

Fort William had a couple of chance for what was now only going to be a consolation goal. Firstly on 74 minutes when Johnathon Hewitt beat James Blanchard in the air and the ball fell for Sean Ellis who smashed the ball over the top of the empty net before Scott Fraser was dispossessed on the halfway line by Michael Milligan who ran through one on one with Blanchard but the Vale keeper did well to save.

Deveronvale hit number five as the heavens opened on 81 minutes when Gordon Carstairs ran on to a Robbie Duncanson through ball to round the visiting keeper and smash the ball into the back of the net for his first competitive goal since joining from Banks O'Dee in the summer.

Graeme Watt then got the goal his performance deserved in the second minute of injury time when he finished off a really nice move from the home side. Mark Cowie played a beautiful flciked ball into Robbie Duncanson who delivered the ball hard and low to the back post where Watt slid the ball into the back of the net.
